Asthma and allergies with oppressive smoke
I have asthma and allergies. When I moved to this neighborhood the wood smoke used to not be so bad. But now once winter hits and every holiday or weekend, I can’t open the windows of my house because the smoke pours in. There are several homes that burn wood, and I’m stuck in the middle of a long row of houses.
What is amazing to me is how far it travels. If there is no wind, the smoke just hangs, and even if a smoky chimney is several houses over, the smoke lingers around my house encasing it. I find it frustrating that I can’t go outdoors and must be cautious about letting the dog out, because the smoke seeps in around the dog door. When I do go out, my eyes burn, and my hair smells like campfire. It feels oppressive.
But its not just here. When I go out in town at night, the smoke smell is quite strong. Not just chimney smoke but everything is open flame cooked now, making it stink.
I just long to be able to open my windows at night and smell fresh air. To be able to let my dog go in and out of the dog door without fearing smoke is going to seep in. I wear a mask now when I go out, rinse my eyes, and try to put a hat on my hair.
I would like to move to a place where there is no smokey chimney but I don’t know where. It’s either smoke from chimneys or smoke from open flame cooking in summer which can be just as bad if it’s grilling. It doesn’t help that they pack people into these places, so you have no way to avoid smelling the neighbor’s smoke.
Anyway thanks for listening.
