Wood Smoke Stories

Wood smoke led to child’s medical emergency

I live on a small estate of houses which is on a hill, my house sits above my neighbours. In 2022 the neighbours installed a log burner and in the winter smoke from the chimney belched out smoke across my garden because their chimney is level with my garden. No matter if we shut all the windows and doors at night smoke still got into the house.

Subsequently my then 12-year old daughter who is asthmatic couldn’t breathe and her inhaler made no difference. She was rushed by ambulance to the nearest hospital where she was on the verge of a tracheotomy to assist her breathing. She with the help of the medics managed to breathe. Diagnosed with Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction caused by smoke inhalation.

Local authorities are toothless and told me we can’t legislate for sensitive breathing.
