Formed in 2016, Doctors and Scientists Against Wood Smoke Pollution (DSAWSP) is an international coalition of doctors, scientists and others who are dedicated to reducing harm to human health and our climate by decreasing wood burning.

We help to educate the public and policymakers on the toxicity, public health consequences, and climate impacts of wood combustion.

We are not affiliated with, nor do we accept funding from, any industry, industry association, or special interest groups. Our motivation is clean air, and our focus is on science.

The important thing to understand about wood smoke is it’s probably the most toxic type of pollution that the average person ever inhales.

DSAWSP board chair Brian Moench, MD, quoted in D. Kruzman, “Wood-burning Stoves Raise New Health Concerns,” Undark, March 2022.
