Wood smoke in a small Indiana town

We recently moved to a lovely small town, Milton Indiana. It’s very quiet and rent on a very nice older house was reasonable. It seemed like such a huge step up from living in the city since we could work from home now.

All summer it was very nice, but as soon as the weather turned cooler it seems that everyone around us has wood burning stoves/fireplaces and even with the insulating plastic on the windows it feels like it just pours in. On top of it neighbors on both sides like to have random fires going in their yards. I'm learning who to contact since one has burned trash as well.

It’s such a shame because we’d love to stay here longer but I don’t know how long we can live with this non-stop smoke.
